Ball game with Grandma & Grandpa

Dan told his Mom, who's from Brazil, that she's not an official American until she's been to a Major League baseball game. So Grandma and Grandpa Rogers and our family went to a ball game on July 24. It was a fun way to spend Pioneer Day, and they even had fireworks after the game. It was a fun game to watch. The Astros beat the Mets 5-4.

Nathan and Sophia posed by the giant baseballs at Minute Maid Park in Houston.

The kids liked drinking Sprite and the hot dogs were pretty good. One of my favorite moments was when one of the Mets players got a home run and Neli clapped for him. I told her she was cheering for the wrong team, and she replied, "The fella did a good job." That's true -- shouldn't we just applaud everyone who does a good job? (Unless it's the Yankees playing the Red Sox.)

Nathan cheered when the Astros won the game. Then they retracted the stadium's ceiling to watch the fireworks. Nathan told me, "This is the best day ever!" The fireworks show went on for a while, accompanied to disco music, and Nathan asked, "Mom, will the fireworks ever end?" His curious mind thought we might just be there all night. I'm glad we got to help Grandma become an official citizen of the USA. What's next? I'm thinking hockey in honor of our neighbors to the north.
