My sister Heather gave birth to a healthy baby girl on New Year's Eve. Her name is Lucy.
Nathan and Sophia met their newborn cousin.
Nathan said, "You're a super cute baby. Silly baby."
Nathan is really taken with babies.
Sophie seems somewhat interested.
Nathan celebrated his half birthday at school in January since his birthday is in July. His teacher, Miss Tobler, made him a candy necklace and even put "1/2" on his birthday hat. I came to the class to read Star Wars: Journey Through Space and to give each child a York peppermint patty, one of his favorite candies. I think his teacher found a clever way for the summer birthday kids to celebrate during the school year. (Miss Tobler tells the kids not to eat all of the candy at once so they won't get stomachaches, and every time I picked out a candy for him, Nathan was worried he might get sick. I let him know one a day is okay.)
Nathan drew this picture of President Barack Obama on January 20, the day of his inauguration. His friend drew the picture to look exactly like him, but I guess Nathan went with the rainbow look. He also had a paper that said, "If I were President, I would ..." and Nathan wrote, "help people do the right thing."
Nathan celebrated his 100th day of school on January 21. Yahoo!
On the way to church last Sunday, Nathan said he liked his suit and said, "I'm a working man!" Dan asked if he wanted to go to work with him, and Nathan said, "Yeah, I'll go to work with Papa." So the morning of January 20, Nathan dressed up with his Dad and packed his Nintendo DS and books into my laptop bag and headed into the office with Dan. He stayed there for a couple of hours, and then I picked him up to go to school in the afternoon. He said he liked "working" at his Dad's office. He said he likes school and work.
Quotes of the week"I'm fifty years old. I'm a working man!" -- Nathan, who is trying to grow up too fast.
"I did it!" -- Sophia, who went potty for the first time on January 26. Hooray!
Grateful moment
I'm thankful for hobbies like scrapbooking. I like making cute things and giving them to others and recording family memories. It makes family history fun. These are Valentine's Day 6x6" pages, a card, and a gift I made at my monthly Stampin' Up group. I love the sock monkey stamp.

We had a fun Christmas break. Dan's parents stayed with us and got to see the kids open their presents on Christmas morning. Four of my five siblings were at my parents' home on Christmas Eve. The only thing I don't like about the holiday season is how it sneaks up on me, and I realize I have lots of wrapping to do on Christmas Eve. I wish Santa would loan me an elf.
Nathan made this great Christmas train at school. The bus driver let him get off first so he could keep it from getting smashed. Sophia sneaked it off the kitchen counter and placed it on the floor so she could eat the candy.
Sophie likes her Noah's Ark toy from Grandma and Grandpa Rogers.
I think the Flip 'N Doodle Easel is a hit. Sophia knew just what to do.
Nathan told us he wanted "all the Star Wars Clone Wars." He liked this spaceship.
The kids play at my parents' house with their cousin Braden.
Dan and I took a trip to see the Eiffel Tower -- in Las Vegas rather than Paris. We were headed to Arizona with Dan's parents for a baby blessing, and we spent a night in Vegas on the way. Dwayne said we saved ourselves $2,000.
I like the water show at the Bellagio.
The snowmen behind us were made of white flowers.
Nathan giggled as he held his cousin Marcus Rogers, who was only three weeks old.
The Rogers clan gathered for Marcus's baby blessing on Dec. 28, minus Becca, Rich, and their kids, who live in Puerto Rico. It was a challenge to get Sophia to hold still.
We went to Lake Havasu on our way back so we could see the rebuilt London Bridge -- in Arizona. Grandma Rogers and I sang "London Bridge is Falling Down" with the kids as we walked along it.
We saw a bit of London and saved ourselves another $2,000 plus. (I would prefer the real deal someday.) This is a beautiful area with paddle boats and even a steamboat for tourists. It's packed in the summer, but we had the place nearly to ourselves since it was winter.Grateful momentI'm grateful my kids traveled so well on our trip. Nathan kept occupied by playing "Mario World" on his DS, and all Sophia needed was some paper and a pen to stay content. She drew lots of circles and said they were bananas, or "nanas."Quote of the week"Mommy, that man knows my name!" -- Nathan, referring to his Uncle James, whom he hadn't seen in a while.
