Little Outlaws

Nathan and Rex, the class pet

Each student in Nathan's kindergarten class gets an overnight with the class pet, Rex the T-Rex. Nathan had his turn a few weeks ago, and he had fun doing all of his activities with the dinosaur. Rex joined Nathan at playing train set, at soccer practice, and at the dinner table. We even played with a dinosaur puzzle. Nathan made a bed for the pet and said, "I love you Rex." He told me the next day how he would choose someone sitting quietly to take Rex home.

Nathan's elementary had a Raptor Romp a couple of weeks ago. Each grade performed a dance. The kindergartners lined up on the grass and stood and walked hand-in-hand onto the field. Nathan told me on the way there that "the dance is hard." He stood while the other kids danced and even turned his back. Most of the other kids got into it. After it was over, I got Nathan off of the field to sit with us. I told him about all the kids who danced, and he responded with pride, "But I didn't!" I guess he's too cool for school.

There will be a showdown at sunset ...

The outlaws plan their next move ...

I took the kids to hike on the Dixie "Sugar Loaf," which is a fun hiking area that overlooks downtown St. George. Nathan insisted on bringing the guns, and he looked like a little Butch Cassidy. I guess Sophia's blond hair makes her the Sundance Kid. They liked finding a "bad guy hideout." Nathan told me he was the bad guy who would get the good guys.

Quote of the month:

"Don't die, Mommy. If you die, I'll go to heaven with you." Nathan, after he saw a car drive by us on the way home from the bus stop two weeks ago. What a sweetheart.
