I've decided to spread the love around. I love my family, of course, but I've been impressed to help out others after watching and reading about stories of people in dire circumstances around the world -- Lebanon, Uganda, Sudan, Ghana, Pakistan, Iraq -- the list goes on and on. Sometimes the needs seem so enormous that I feel my widow's mite won't make much difference. But I changed my mind. I decided if I make 10 school kits and send it to children in Uganda, it will make a difference to those 10 children. And that's better than making no difference at all.
My husband and I decided to give a small amount a month toward the LDS Humanitarian Fund. My sister and I are also collecting supplies for school kits, which we found out was a Current Need from the Humanitarian section of www.lds.org. We will enlist others in the community to help our cause, and I hope we'll see our bundle of supplies multiply.
I think the song by John Mayer is inspiring. The lyrics say, "We keep on waiting -- waiting on the world to change." Instead of waiting for someone else to do something, stand up and do something yourself -- and more people will follow. Happy Love Day.
